Free Graphics Editors – bitmap (like Photoshop) and vector (like Illustrator).
An Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format.
Inkscape supports many advanced SVG features (markers, clones, alpha blending, etc.) and great care is taken in designing a streamlined interface. It is very easy to edit nodes, perform complex path operations, trace bitmaps and much more. We also aim to maintain a thriving user and developer community by using open, community-oriented development.

GimPad 1.1 that will make GimPhoto scattered window to single MDI ala PS.
GimPhoto is an interesting image editor which markets itself as a free alternative to Photoshop. While it may not offer everything Photoshop has, it’s certainly an impressive image editor.
GimPhoto is heavily modeled on GIMP except by default, it already includes 20 GIMP plugins that make it as close to Photoshop as possible. If you’ve used GIMP therefore, you’ll feel very at home with GimPhoto. One of the frequently cited problems with GIMP is that the interface and menu labels are a bit confusing and awkward compared to Photoshop and this is certainly something that…

GIMP is the open-source reference in image manipulation. This free application will allow you to retouch, author and edit your photos thanks to a wide set of tools.
Let’s quickly go through what you can do with GIMP. The painting function has the essential clone, airbrush and pencil tools and a powerful gradient and blend tool. You can also create and save your own brushes and patterns for later use. GIMP lets you manipulate your photos, adding layers, doing Bezier and polygonal selections or setting text. Load and save animations in a frame-as-layer format and batch process all your photos for quick editing. The multi-windowed interface can be moved around to fit your needs and resized according to your desktop space
What’s more, GIMP can be expanded with over 100 different plug-ins and extensions available on the GIMP’s website. These apply in majority for layer effects such as render, distort or blur and make a great addition to the ones already present in the program. The website is also home to a variety of GIMP tutorials for people who want to brush up on their skills.
While GIMP is user-friendly, the installation process can be a bit scary. Because the application works under the GTK Runtime Environment, you will have to install this kit to successfully launch the program. The process is fairly lengthy and some error messages tend to pop up. If you persist, however, you will be able to install Gimp properly on your PC

Pinta: Painting Made Simple
Pinta is a free, open source drawing/editing program modeled after Paint.NET. Its goal is to provide users with a simple yet powerful way to draw and manipulate images on Linux, Mac, and Windows.
Pinta is a neat drawing and editing tool inspired by Paint.NET, which aims to work as an simpler, easier-to-use alternative to GIMP.
This means you shouldn’t expect Pinta to be some kind of open source Photoshop clone. It does include some interesting features like support for layers, unlimited undo and redo, and a bunch of special filters and effects to spice up your images – but its nothing like a serious photo editor. It does, however, include a nice selection of drawing tools that can make Pinta a good alternative to Microsoft’s Paint.

SunlitGreen Photo Editor is a basic photo editing tool that’s very light on system resources and extremely easy to use.
Don’t expect SunlitGreen Photo Editor to be some kind of free replacement for Photoshop. Quite on the contrary, this is a very simple editor with only the basic pack of photo editing tools – namely resizing, cropping, and adjusting brightness, contrast and color balance. On the upside, these are the editing options most users need on a daily basis.

Artweaver is the perfect tool to give free rein to your imagination and creativity. It includes more than a dozen different brushes – each of them with their own tweaks and settings – to create all sorts of effects. The brushes try to convey the feeling and result of using actual drawing tools, and I have to say they do a pretty good job!
